After being one of like fifteen people to actually see 2013's Parkland, I remember thinking, "That Zac Efron's not a bad actor. Given the right role, he might be pretty good." Well, the time has come to put his feet to the flame and see if he's got what it takes in the upcoming Ted Bundy biopic Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile.
Ted Bundy managed to be such a successful serial killer because he was a handsome devil. He was the kind of dude that could lure women into a false sense of security before murdering them. That sounds like a pretty effective use of Efron, but the question will be if he's got the chops to pull it off. Just from the looks of this trailer, I think he might.
The film has a rather eccentric supporting cast including Jim Parsons, John Malkovich, Phil Collins' daughter, that alien looking hot chick from Westworld, Haley Joel Osment, and, strangest of all, Metallica frontman James Hetfield—he's a friend of director Joe Berlinger. That's a weird mix, any way you slice it. Also, Parsons playing a lawyer might be his most believable role since he played an alpha male racist scientist in Hidden Figures.
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile premieres at Sundance tomorrow, and will likely be in theaters later this year so Zac Efron can win his first Oscar.
