Looks like Captain America Chris Evans is taking on a different kind of Winter Soldier in Bong Joon-ho's upcoming sci-fi thriller Snowpiercer. The film's first trailer is making the rounds today and we're seriously scratching our heads over here.
Bong Joon-ho has been unflappable in his past few films -- especially The Host. But what the crap is this? Based on a French graphic novel, the story is set in a post-global-warming-apocalypse ice age caused by the very experiment that was supposed to stop it. Earth's remaining survivors live on a perpetual-motion machine-powered train with a pesky dystopian class system controlled by Tilda Swinton's shrill harridan-like leader. Clearly someone's gotta end that class system! Enter Evans' character and cohorts John Hurt, Ed Harris and Ewen Bremner among others to start a great perpetual-train revolution. Obviously it's called Snowpiercer because,'The Great Hunger Games Train Robbery That Will Happen the Day After Tomorrow in Metropolis' was already taken.
Shot in English, but produced in South Korea, the film doesn't have a US release date. The rest of the world will get to be baffled by it on August 1st. Or it will be awesome. Who knows?
