Why “Argo” Should Win Best Picture

In my not so humble opinion Argo was the best movie of 2012. That and Skyfall which didn't even receive a nomination, (Friggin' Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences). Let's look at the facts shall we? Firstly it was a smart and original thriller that had a solid script, great performances by Ben Affleck, Alan Arkin, John Goodman, and Victor Garber's permed 70's fro. Secondly, it commented on the events of the Iranian revolution, the impact of which we are still dealing with, in a non-heavyhanded way. And thirdly, it was just f%&king entertaining. I was on the edge of my seat even though I knew the hostages would probably get out OK. Not to mention the fact that it's won every other award including the Golden Globes and Ye Old English BAFTA.

The big reason I think Affleck wasn't nominated for a best directing Oscar is because...well...it's Ben Affleck. Hollywood is an unforgiving quagmire of venom and plastic surgery. I'll admit I spent years making fun of Affleck's butt-like face and crappy choices, like the abomination that is Gigli, (I blame J-Lo's ass for hypnotizing him into making that turdfest). But it turns out that he's a pretty amazing director. Did you see The Town? He even got good performances out of Blake "The blond slut from Gossip Girl" Lively. Argo is clearly the best choice for the naked golden dude with a sword. Let's look at the films it's nominated against and discuss their chances, shall we?
