For several years now, Universal has been developing a remake of Weird Science, with an eye towards a 2018 release date. There's speculation over the two male leads, but we know very little about who would play Lisa, the "perfect" woman. Or at least the perfect woman according to teenage boys in the 80s. Or at least according to what a studio executive thought teenage boys in the 80s wanted.
Anyway, it was Kelly Le Brock who gave the boys a car, erased Gary's parents' memories, and turned Wyatt's brother Chet into a giant frog. Who could pull off that role today? The qualifications: Kelly was a model first, who had starred in only one other film before Science. She had that great British accent (she was born in NYC but grew up in London), and she was married to Steven Seagal for almost ten years. With that in mind, let's look at my top contenders:
Model? Yes
Acting Novice?: Yes, unless you count Keeping Up with the Kardashians
Accent? No
Married to a Star? Kanye West is a more like a supernova
A Google search for "Kim Kardshian + perfect" brings up 27 million results. Clearly she is a lot of guys' fantasy woman. She may not have an accent, but she has an exotic look, owing to her Armenian heritage. She has played someone other than herself in only three movies (Disaster Movie being the best one). A Weird Science performance could catapult her into the world of leading roles, at least in comedies. Would you shower with her with your jeans on?
Model? Yes
Acting Novice?: Had a fairly large role in The Other Woman, and has two more films coming out soon
Accent? No
Married to a Star? Engaged to star pitcher Justin Verlander
I'll confess that Kate is my personal fantasy woman. I don't think I've ever heard her speak, but I don't care. Blonde, busty, curvy, and with coquettish eyes and an infectious smile. If she can act -- and that's a big "if" -- she could be destined for greatness, one of those models who breaks into the big time like Cameron Diaz or Rebecca Romijn. She's got my vote for this role and everything else.
Model? No
Acting Novice? Nope -- she was up for a lot of awards for her role in Babel and played pilot Mako Mori in Pacific Rim
Accent? Yes
Married to a Star? Yes -- Japanese actor Shota Sometani
Rinko combines a cute voice and an even cuter accent with a slim, fit body. Lisa is supposed to be kinda threatening to Gary and Wyatt, and Rinko proved she could be a badass in Pacific Rim. But with all her nominations and her work with awesome directors like Guillermo del Toro and Alejandro Iñárritu, does she need a movie like Weird Science? Then again, there isn't a lot of comedy on her résumé, so maybe she'd take a stab at this.
Model? No
Acting Novice? Come on!
Accent? Yes
Married to a Star? Not married to anyone
Hmmm. Looks like all Emilia has going for her in this competition is her accent. But she could totally be a teenage boy's fantasy woman: She's played the Queen of Dragons. Sarah Connor. Lover of a quadriplegic. And she has a sense of humor about herself, as we've seen in various Game of Thrones parodies she's participated in, and the outtakes from that show and Terminator. But no one has given her a chance at movie comedy. This could be it.
Model? No
Acting Novice? She was in two Pirates of the Caribbean movies and played Moneypenny in the last two James Bond films
Accent? Yes
Married to a Star? Not married
Naomie Harris is one of those talented, beautiful women who haven't quite found stardom. She has played minor parts in two huge franchises but is hardly known to American audiences. Her charming turn as Moneypenny shows she can do comedy, which her filmography is mostly lacking. I'd love to see her command Wyatt and Gary the way her Calypso commands the seas and skies in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.
Model? Oh my yes
Acting Novice?: Several small projects (like "short film" small) but she's been cast in the Baywatch movie
Accent? No
Married to a Star? No, but dating Stephen Dorff
Charlotte McKinney should be on this list because she should be on any list of astoundingly hot women. We'll find out if she can actually act when the Baywatch movie comes out next year. If she's good -- and if she's funny -- she might just move to the top of the rankings.
