I was a teenager and just a hair too old when the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers hit the scene in the early mid-90's so I was not as into them as I was to other things. By then I had discovered girls. But I did watch the show on occasion because I loved its unabashed campiness. I loved the fact that it didn't take itself seriously and looked like a bad Japanese movie from the 70's even though it was brand new. So, it was with some sadness that I learned that they were making a modern day reboot movie. Because of course they are. Hollywood is trying to tap into the nostalgia of 30 and 40-year olds while simultaneously trying to capture the attention of those same people's kids. All the while not having to come up with anything new or creative by just rehashing something from the past. Gone is the goofy camp of the original. This movie looks all dark and super serious. You can't take the Power Ranger seriously. It's not Ibsen. Just embrace the cheese and make it fun.
But that's just my opinion. So, here is the trailer. It looks like a bad Transformers movie. Think about that. A BAD Transformers movie.Â
