Like many comedy nerds that grew up in the 80's, I LOVE Weird Al Yankovic. I used to play his tapes so much in the car that my grandfather had to put a fatwa on them. I would have to buy new ones every year because I would wear them out. But my favorite Weird Al song of all time is his parody of The Kinks' classic Lola. It's called Yoda and it's about...well...Yoda. Because Star Wars was the most important thing in my life when I was a kid, this was right in my wheelhouse. Weird Al is the best at what he does and has been the gold standard of parody and comedy songwriting for thirty years. Lin-Manuel Miranda also knows a thing or two about writing songs and being a cultural phenomenon. Nothing has been bigger in the last year than his musical Hamilton. So, when you put Lin-Manuel, Weird Al together to sing Yoda...it's magical.Â
Good on Weird Al for scoring Radio City Music Hall. He deserves it. I've seen this guy live and he and his band are incredible. They sound like everyone, for God's sake.Â
