Get ready for it kids, and I literally mean that, because I finally see how they're going to make this PG-13. Watching this new trailer for October's Venom—starring Mumbles Hardy, son of Chips—I finally see how they were able to soften the edges of the character enough to make him work in PG-13 confines.
I must admit to feeling a twinge of disappointment that Sony wasn't willing to go hardcore R for this one, but it's understandable. If their Spider-Man cinematic universe is going to continue without Spider-Man, you've got to bring in the kids, not just the fat guys wearing Venom t-shirts.
Rumors were flying after the noticeably Venom-less first trailer that the title character wouldn't get much screen time in his feature starring debut. However, it looks like these were just rumors. If they're willing to show him off in full in the official trailer, he's gonna have plenty of screen time.
The character they're definitely keeping under wraps is the one played by Woody Harrelson, though if more of those rumors are to be believed, it's with good reason. Don't want to spoil that secret in a trailer.
My guess is that Riz Ahmed's character is closer to a Norman Osborne before he became the Goblin type, and Woody will turn out to be the big bad as Carnage. Either way, I hope that people are happy to know what Venom looks like now.
Venom opens October 5, though expect to see this trailer again this weekend before Infinity War.
