Here's something fun for Star Wars Day, aka May 4th: A 360° recreation of the original Star Tours ride from Disney's MGM Studios! This video allows you to re-experience the now defunct Star Tours ride for the first time since it was shut down and replaced a few years back. If you're like me and haven't been on this ride in several years, it's a fantastically nostalgic way to spend five minutes.
The absolute coolest thing about this video is the fact that if you have a virtual reality headset for your smartphone, you can come as close as any human to recreating the authentic Star Tours experience. Hell, you could even get one of those five dollar cardboard dealies they sell at Five Below and do it. Either way, it's a trip down memory lane that all Star Wars fans can appreciate today.
While I have yet to experience the new Star Tours: The Adventure Continues that opened in 2011, something tells me it's not anywhere near as cool as this version was. Yeah, it's probably more technologically advanced and features all sorts of George Lucas approved retconned nonsense, but nothing will come close to that original experience. Well, unless you've got one of those cardboard VR helmets.
