According to The Tracking Board, Chris Hemsworth has been offered the starring role in a Lethal Weapon reboot directed by Justin Lin and written by Will Beall. The plot will supposedly focus on the son of an older cop who decides to make like his old man and join the police force. And given that Mel Gibson and Rene Russo had a son at the end of 1998's Lethal Weapon 4, we can only assume that the old man is Martin Riggs, loose cannon par excellence.

If all this is true it would make prefect sense. Hollywood is currently in the process of rebooting every successful movie franchise ever created, and Warner Brothers has yet to revisit the greatest buddy-cop franchise of all time. Also Hemsworth, like Gibson, is an extremely good-looking Australian guy who knows his way around an action flick. Sure, he's not a batshit insane anti-semite, but I'm sure WB can work around that.

That being said, the rumor is just that Thor has been offered the role. It doesn't say he's accepted it. With his extensive commitment a certain series of Marvel movies, it may be hard for him to find time to play Riggs Jr.

What do you think, though? Would Hemsworth be a good choice to carry on the Lethal Weapon franchise?
