If anyone knows how to milk their shit ‘til their shit can be milked no more, it’s Capcom. The success of Street Fighter II, for instance, saw the world record for Most Goddamn Rereleases of the Same Freaking Game Ever completely smashed. Super Street Fighter, Hyper Fighting, The New Challengers… it was rehash-amundo. Capcom are also at the helm of Resident Evil, which turns twenty years old this year. We’re celebrating, natch, with rereleases out the wazzoo.
Evils 4, 5 and 6 are hitting next gen systems later in 2016, and the remake of Resident Evil 2 is on its way as well. As far as new titles go, though, all that’s coming is Umbrella Corps. We’ve had a couple good ogles at this TPS before, and it was all looking a little too Operation Raccoon City for me (read: a bit wank). This latest clip gives us a more in-depth look at the multiplayer modes on offer, and it seems there’s a bit more to this than we thought.
Umbrella Corps offers the usual standard-ass deathmatch stuff you’d expect, along with a gaggle of different modes that change things up. DNA Hunter sees you collecting DNA samples from the stage’s resident zombies, which gives the shambling bastards an actual use. Target Hunter and Respawn Match also add twists to spice up the sometimes mindless gameplay of shooters.
Check out some of the other offerings below. All in all, I’m still not expecting too much from this, but I’m not writing it off instantly either.
