U.S. Men’s Soccer Takes Step Towards World Cup (VIDEO)

Fans of the U.S. Men's National Soccer team had reason to celebrate Friday night. With a 3-1 win over Antigua and Barbuda the team had taken the first step towards qualifying for the next World Cup.

After some lackluster efforts in their last couple exhibition matches, it was nice to see the team pretty much dominate a game from the beginning to the end. The U.S. was expected to control the game, but after shaky performances against Brazil and Canada, there is nothing wrong with a confidence win.

The U.S. wasted no time getting on the board scoring the first goal just eight minutes into the match when Carlos Bocanegra tapped the ball in following goalie Molvin James's attempt to stop a header by Herculez (Herculez! Herculez! Herculez!) Gomez. It wasn't until Clint Dempsey made a penalty kick in the 44th minute that the U.S. started to pull away. Gomez added the team's third goal in the 72nd minute.

According to some reports on the game, the U.S. did not play as well as the score would indicate. What these people fail to take into consideration is that head coach Jurgen Klinsmann was trying a few different things with the line-up (if there was ever a game that they could and get away with it this was the one).

So don't worry, the guys are going to look even better when they play their next World Cup qualifier against Guatemala on Tuesday.
