Ever since that O.J. show with Cuba Gooding Jr, everyone's got a hard-on for nineties criminal nostalgia. There's that Menendez Brothers thing with Carmela Soprano coming soon, and in January we're gonna get FNL's Tim Riggins, aka John Carter himself, Taylor Kitsch as Branch Davidian cult leader David Koresh in Waco. The miniseries also stars Michael Shannon, Andrea Riseborough, Supergirl's Melissa Benoist, and John Leguizamo (audible sigh) and will dramatize the 51 day standoff between Koresh and his followers and the federal government that ended in flames.
I love Michael Shannon and would literally watch him read the phone book. Kitsch, I'm not so sure about. He's gotten several big breaks and has squandered nearly all of them. I hope he gets the chance to prove himself here, otherwise it's about time we give up on him, isn't it? I mean, we gave up on Jan-Michael Vincent eventually as well. There's only so much bad acting we're willing to subject ourselves to just to gaze upon a hunk for a few hours, amirite?
The six part miniseries Waco will premiere on the brand new Paramount Network—which used to be known as Spike TV—in January.
