A report out of Jacksonville cited 'anonymous sources' saying that Jaguars were trying to get Tim Tebow from the Jets before Thursday's NFL trade deadline. It seemed to make sense; the Jags tried to lure Tebow back to his home state before he eventually was traded to New York. However, a Jets source said they weren't moving Tebow.
Still, the talk meant that Jags current QB Blaine Gabbert had to answer questions about Tebow coming there, and this is what he told the Detroit Free-Press, via NFL.com:
I think we're pretty satisfied here at quarterback.
Maybe, maybe not, but it's silly that Gabbert had to endure the questions. The other nonsensical thing today was University of South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier telling Dan Patrick that Alabama could beat a couple NFL teams. Please. Spurrier should know better than to say something that dumb.
First of all, Spurrier tried to coach in the NFL and found out how much harder it is than in the college game. In college, there are maybe one or two or three superstars on a great team. Even in Alabama, where there are possibly 8-10 NFL prospects, that's not enough to beat the Chiefs or Browns. Even the worst teams in the NFL have more talent at every position than the best college teams.
We're also comparing grown ass men to 18-22 year guys. Maturity, physically and mentally, is a huge factor. It wouldn't even be a close game. Spurrier tried to say that the oddsmakers would probably favor Alabama. Not a chance in hell that would happen.
All that said, yes, I would like to see a game like that happen just to put this nonsense to rest once and for all.
