Two preseason games into the New York Jets' year, and it's already looking like the giant hype machine around their quarterback situation is taking a toll. Both Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow have failed to lead the team to a touchdown yet, and the team has scored an NFL worst 9 points so far. They also rank dead last in total yards and passing yards. Yikes.
It's not completely the two QBs faults for the Jets ineptitude. The offensive line is miserable, and they don't have their top receiver, Santonio Holmes. The running game can't get going, and right now Tebow's 39 rushing yards are second on the team. Sanchez has connected on 13 of his 17 passes, but they aren't going anywhere. They've all been short, unless you count the 77-yard pick six he threw on Saturday night.
Of course, none of this means it's time to freak out if you're a Jets fan. That said, there's hardly anything to get excited about. The stadium got loud when Tebow came into the game, but when he short hopped a wide open receiver in the corner of the endzone you could pretty much hear the groans in the crowd.
The Jets have until September 9th to get things figured out, or things are going to turn ugly quick. Which, for those of us who aren't Jets fans, might be the best thing to happen. It's not like the media is going to stop covering them if they're bad. Hell, ESPN might move their HQ to outside the Jets practice facility if the Jets completely implode.
