The Star Wars Celebration is happening in London now and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Gareth Edwards showed some behind the scenes footage of the film. It looks pretty awesome, which is kind of a relief. After they went back and did massive reshoots I was worried that it was going to suck. But the battle on the beach stuff in this vignette reminds me of Saving Private Ryan's powerful scenes of the invasion of Normandy. Only, you know, with lasers and stormtroopers. No sign of Vader yet but supposedly he's in there. Of course, we can be deceived by a two minute piece showing a bunch of cool practical effects and explosions. Even though Star Wars literally has the word "wars" in the title, this one seems more like a true war story than any of the others. It will be interesting to see whether it can pull it off.
I'm hopeful, but then again, I 'm an optimist, especially when it comes to Star Wars. I went to see each prequel movie with the hope that the next one would be better than the last. Naive? Maybe.
