Things That Are Hilarious: Saudi Arabia Fashion Show With Drones

Every once in a while something so ridiculous happens that people from all walks of life can set aside their differences and join in mocking the offending dumbass or dumbasses. It's like the I'd Like To Buy The World A Coke commercial, except less scary and cult-y. The viral video currently uniting us all in bitchery comes from a Saudi Arabian fashion show that used drones instead of models to display the clothing. The drones drag around the fluttering dresses draped out over plastic hangers with all the grace of a puppeteer with Parkinson's disease. And no, the show wasn't the brainchild of current Saudi sheik communal Fleshlight Lindsay Lohan. Crazy.

The show, which took place in the liberal(ish) city ofJiddah, supposedly wasn't so much acquiescing to Saudi female modesty rules as it was intentionally trying to catapult Saudi fashion into the 21st century. This wasn't a workaround, supposedly. Organizer Ali Nabil Akbar stated that the concept took two weeks to implement and that "everything involved innovation." According to The Washington Post, women in Saudi Arabia are technically required to cover up their filthy offensive unholy bodies with abayas, but under the new progressive Prince Mohammed bin Salman, times, they are a changing regarding women's rights. They can even legally drive now. Hopefully for everyone's sake parallel parking isn't a thing there. JK!

The new more liberal image projected by the region was, however, challenged during the first ever Arabian fashion week this April, which was a disaster as only women could attend and models basically had to wear car covers so as not to expose their cleavage or anything below the knee. Skanks. So basically, while some are crying out that the usage of the drones instead of women is indicative of female oppression, we really don't know if it is or not (despite the text in the top tweet above.) What we do know is that Saudis are artistically inspired by the elegance and grace of Scooby-Doo ghosts.
