Maybe you heard that Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger are teaming up to do another buddy action film. If so, then you probably heard that the title of that film is The Tomb.
Well, it's not called The Tomb anymore. Now the Lionsgate/Summit action flick is calling The Escape Plan. So in other words, it went from an action movie with the title of a horror flick to an action movie with the title of a rom-com starring Katherine Heigl and Matthew McConaughey.
The reason for the title switch wasn't announced, of course. However, if I had to speculate—and I do, because that's my job—I'd guess some genius over in marketing decided it was probably not a good idea to remind audiences just how old and close to the tomb these guys actually are. After all, their last two movies (Schwarzenegger's The Last Stand and Stallone's Bullet to the Head) both flopped big time, earning a combined $21.5 million at the box office. And it just so happens that the trailers for both of those films kind of focused on how old and decrepit these Hollywood legends are.
Unfortunately, there's no trailer for The Escape Plan yet. But here are the aforementioned trailers for The Last Stand and Bullet to the Head. Just use your imagination and combine these two movies in your head. That's probably what The Escape Plan will be like.
The Escape Plan, directed by Mikael Håfström, is scheduled to open September 13, 2013.
