Here's a short look at Activision's (!) take on promised The Walking Dead first person shooter the company announced over the summer. Dubbed "Survival Instinct" the FPS game is looking to capitalize on the soaring popularity of the show and the beloved episodic game that debuted last spring. Got that? Good because there's a lot going on in the video clip above that should be cause for concern if you like either video games or The Walking Dead as a piece of intellectual property.

The video game angle is problematic because that thing looks like it's from another era. The colors, the way the zombies move and the way the character is using the weapons all have an outdated look that will NOT pass as stylized. This isn't 1996. As far as sticking to the show, we're supposedly using Darrell and Merle in this game, we're not seeing too much that looks like AMC's television show. The zombies on that show are particularly gruesome, dry and disgusting. Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 games, at this point in their console lives, should be able to replicate and animate that look with no problems at all. But that's not what we're seeing here.

We're down with the show but this game appears to be struggling like Sheriff Rick and his beard.
