Netflix has really been battling a 1000 with its original programming. Stranger Things and Luke Cage are huge hits for the network. But one of my favorite shows they have produced is Voltron: Legendary Defender. The reboot of the classic Japanese anime from the 80's has a surprising amount of depth and cleverness to it that in many ways outshines the original. It tells the tale of five space explorers that end up on an unknown planet and find themselves in a war against an evil planetary overlord named Zarkon. With the help of a princess from a doomed race they learn about a giant robot made up of five lions that can defeat Zarkon. When last we left them at the end of season one it was a cliffhanger ending. Now we return and it looks badass. Looks like team leader Jiro is in some trouble.
The show promises plenty of action and drama, like truly good anime should. I can't wait until it comes back.Â
