TV & FILM
Michael Garcia - July 22, 2016
In my humble opinion, and that of a lot of other people, the greatest horror movie of all time is the original Exorcist. It is such a well-crafted movie and tells a simple tale of a young girl possessed by a demon and the two priests that try and save her. To my mind no other movie even comes close. Maybe it's because I grew up going to Catholic school and the iconography of the Church and the lore of the Devil are deeply engrained. That's why I'm pretty psyched for Fox's new Exorcist TV Series set to premiere in the fall. They debuted the trailer for it at Comic Con and if the show is anything like the trailer then we are in for a scary treat. Like the original a young doubting priest, Father Tomas played by Alfonso Herrera, is brought in on a case of the possible demonic possession of a little girl by her desperate mother, played by Geena Davis. He must bring in an older priest with more experience to help him and then stuff gets real.
For some reason I never get tired of seeing movies about exorcisms. Maybe it's the aforementioned Catholic indoctrination or perhaps it's that the idea of losing control over your mind and body is a primordial fear. Either way this looks good. And they used Tubular Bells from the original soundtrack.
