The Strangest Subreddits

Just about everyone knows Reddit. And most of us stick to the big sections: r/movies, r/cars, r/cfb. But there are somewhere around 650,000 subreddits, covering just about every interest, hobby, concept, or fetish. Some of these are private but many are available to the public to lurk, read, and wonder.

Take a tour through mysterious regions of Reddit you never knew existed. While this is by no means a complete list, it's the weirdest subs I could find.

r/Conspiracy

Did you know Hillary Clinton actually died months ago? The Democratic Party has been using body doubles, or possibly even clones; one of them glitched and that's what you saw stumbling at the Sept. 11 memorial. Then again, maybe Trump is a Hillary plant, sent to disrupt the Republican Party from the very beginning. And speaking of 9/11...you don't know half of the truth. This subreddit includes some of the kookiest theories on the internet. Some ideas are ludicrous, others are chilling; almost all are very creative, and compelling to read.

r/Creepypasta

This sub contains only fiction...or does it? These are internet urban legends, usually told in the first person, sometimes in the format of a blog post or an email, so it seems even more real. Anyone with a twisted imagination can write a scary story for r/Creepypasta, but some go the extra step and add Photoshopped images or videos, further blurring the line between fiction and reality. Slenderman wasn't created here, but he flourished here, eventually "causing" two young girls to attempt to murder their friend. Don't read this sub while you're alone at night.

r/Greenlight

The New World Order is coming. But it's to be celebrated, not feared; the globe is controlled by evil parties pulled from every organization, from the Masons, to the Vatican, to the Rothschilds, to the British Royal Family, and others. Operation Greenlight is when the people, including sympathetic governments and armies, rise up against our corrupt masters once and for all. How powerful are these enemies? They started both World Wars. Keep this tab open when the uprising comes and you should emerge from the carnage unharmed.

r/Fed Legs

The creator of this site (which currently has 307 subscribers) had a dream about women with yellow legs. It turned into a fetish and, now, a subreddit. As he describes it: "This is a subreddit to post all things related; pictures of girls with yellow legs (photoshop), yellow tights, or [hopefully eventually] a girl with actual painted yellow legs)." And that's just what it is. No judgment.

r/CatsStandingUp

Look, the internet is full of cats. Jumping in boxes. Chasing laser pointers. Being scared of cucumbers. But what if you just want to look at photos of cats standing on their hind legs? And that's all? No other nonsense? Here you can join your 90,000 brethren.

r/RoastMe

The rules are simple: You submit a photo of yourself with a sign saying "Roast me," and all of Reddit posts comments making fun of your appearance. I guess this is trolling come full circle, so instead of avoiding insults from internet randos, you're actively asking for them. A lot of the "roastees" stick around and upvote and comment on the zingers. Fun to read, but I wouldn't participate if you're thin-skinned.

r/ShowerBeer

Photos of people are showering = good. Beer = good. Put 'em together and you have this sub, featuring people showering while drinking a beer. (Not showering with beer instead of water, silly; that would be weird.) I like that the rules on the sidebar start with "Beer label must be prominently displayed in photo." A lot of the pictures are actually safe for work. However, a note: In my experience, most of the photos are men.

r/FixingMovies

In subs like r/Movies or r/Screenwriting, people complain about bad films. But no one ever does anything about it! In this sub, you get to rework any film you like -- er, didn't like. The rules state, "Were you disappointed by a movie, tv show, book, video game, or comic? How would you change it? Rewrite it here! Footage edits and screenshot edits are welcome too!" Probably a waste of time, unless you aspire to be an author or screenwriter, but certainly therapeutic. Until someone's fix makes you more upset, and then you have to fix their fix.

r/LifeofNorman

Norman is a fictional character. He is bald, middle-aged, divorced, with one son who has moved out of town, and a cat -- also named Norman. In this sub, people write super-short stories about Norman's unremarkable life, from his everyday frustrations to his minor triumphs. The rules state, "This sub is not a hateful place, made to make fun of a lonely man. It's more of a place to write stories about a person who is undeniably relate-able. We all have a bit of Norman in us..." Well put. There's even a spin-off sub for Norman's equally boring co-worker, Lisa.

r/OldWomenBakingPies

The descriptions sound horribly dirty, but the images provide the punchline. No matter what sexiness you think is on the other end of the link, it's just old women baking pies. Unfortunately safe for work.
