When Netflix rather abruptly and unceremoniously cancelled Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Daredevil late last year, it left Jessica Jones and The Punisher as the only live action Marvel series on the streaming service. With The Punisher's second season set to debut this month, it's assumed a cancellation announcement will follow shortly thereafter.
It makes sense to me, now, why Kevin Feige was hesitant to bring the Netflix characters into the MCU proper. These shows were probably destined to be cancelled and rebooted the minute Disney got their streaming service Disney+ up and running. Now that we're on the brink of that happening, I expect that we'll see Daredevil and the rest join the MCU, likely with new actors in the roles.
As stupid as that sounds, Marvel must have some sort of plan beyond these actors and series, because they're basically sweeping them under the rug at this point. It's a damn shame too, because Jon Bernthal is aces as Frank Castle. He's done a brilliant job of bringing the character to life in a way no other actor has even remotely come close to doing.
Bernthal returns for one last ride as The Punisher starting January 18 on Netflix.
