The trailer for the upcoming Ghostbusters movie is the most hated trailer in the history of YouTube. Not only that, but it is in the top 25 most disliked videos in YouTube history. The video has been watched over 29 million times and has been disliked several million times. Why so much hatred? Surely much of it has to do with the general misogyny of the Internet getting all bent out of shape because the movie stars four women. But I don't care about that. I'm fine with that. I'm a feminist, I think women can be heroes just as well as men. No, my issue is that the trailer just looks like crap. Maybe the movie will be great and it's just a bad trailer, but it looks more annoying than funny. Paul Feig is an able director, of course. But for some reason it just seems like a stupid, insipid comedy. The original Ghostbusters was a comedy masterpiece.
Which brings me to the biggest reason that this new movie bothers me: why does it even exist? Ghostbusters is perfect and you can't improve upon what's perfect. It's not that I mind women being the Ghostbusters, it's that I mind ANYONE but Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson being the Ghostbusters. I have to say that I disliked the video too. It just doesn't look good. Watch it above and tell me I'm wrong.
