The Swiss won gold in the equestrian singles jump yesterday. I guess they do have more to offer than pocket knives and a handy place to hide Nazi gold. Still, I can't help but feel that equestrian sports don't belong in the Olympics. They aren't the stupidest events in Olympic history, but it still doesn't seem fair. Why? Because it's not the human that jumps over those hurdles, it's the horse.
The track and field hurdle races are impressive because most humans can't do that. You can train any horse to jump a hurdle. Once you've taught him, your job is done. All the Swiss guy did was sit there and tell the horsey it was hurdle jumping time. I can just sit there and talk to a horse. If the Olympics chooses to keep equestrian sports in the Olympics they should do what's right and give the medal to the horse. It's like Chewbacca not getting a medal at the end of Star Wars all over again.
