One of the most anticipated new shows of the year has to be Netflix's GLOW, based on the short-lived female wrestling league of the same name. If you're not familiar with this incredible footnote in our country's pop culture history, GLOW is an acronym for Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, which tells you all you need to know about this awesome by-product of 1980s America needing more wrestling in its life.
The show comes to us courtesy of writer/producers Liz Flahive (Homeland, Nurse Jackie) and Carly Mensch & Jenji Kohan (Weeds, Orange is the New Black), and stars Alison Brie as a struggling actress who puts it all on the line to become one of the titular wrestlers. You might also recognize comedian and podcaster Marc Maron as well as Ellen Wong, who played Knives Chau in Scott Pilgrim vs The World. The production, costume, hair, and makeup designs are all spot on and are sure to make this series a real blast from the past!
Whether you're a fan of lady wrestlers, the 80s, or Netflix content in general, this looks to be one hell of a streamable new series! June 23 can't come soon enough!
