The franchise that built Pixar got a pretty amazing send-off with 2010's Toy Story 3, only the third animated feature film ever nominated for Best Picture. Never one to rest on their laurels, the premiere cgi-animation studio in the world is digging the toys back out for another adventure, Toy Story 4.
Nevermind that the third film made an entire generation of people who grew up with the first two Toy Story films weep uncontrollably in a movie theater. Those kids are parents with kids of their own now, and will turn out in droves for this just like they did for Finding Dory and Incredibles 2. It's the brilliant and beautiful circle of life that Disney created long ago, making themselves an integral part of our lives so that they can milk us for money just like they milked our parents and they milked theirs.
It's what Elton John was singing about in The Lion King, only we didn't fully grasp just how overpowering Disney would become back then. We just thought it was a charming song about African animals. Little did we know they were grooming us for something far more nefarious.
Also, the Judy Collins version of "Both Sides Now"? What on earth is happening?
Toy Story 4 hits theaters on June 21, 2019.
