GAMING

Just lately in games, everything’s been all about open-world action. The biggest names of recent years, Grand Theft Auto V, Fallout 4, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and such, have been all about that. The freedom, the scope of it all, the exploration, the sidequests and hidden secrets. This is a time for damn ambitious titles.
Now, the option to leave the main story behind to just dick around with yoga minigames in GTA is nice enough. But hell, this is 2016, grandpa. We want more freedom from our free-roaming. Open world just isn’t cutting it any more. Only one world? Nuts to that. Get with the freaking program already, developers.
This is exactly why the super-hyped No Man’s Sky is such a big deal. This outer space mining/trading/fighting adventure speaks of a playground of over 18 quintillion planets. I didn’t even know that was an actual number, that’s how many goddamn planets we’re talking about here.
The kicker is, despite all the hype the game’s generated, we don’t know too much about it other than that. It’s set for release in August, which means this is going to need to change. Here’s a first look at some actual proper gameplay, the first in a new series of trailers. Each will showcase a key aspect of No Man’s Sky gameplay, the first being exploration. Check it out.
