When I was in junior high I used to love the HBO series Tales from the Crypt. Every week they would tell a different story of horror tale. Some were terrible and some were kind of mediocre. It wasn't a great show, but it had a cult following. Part of the reason for its enduring appeal was the presence of The Crypt Keeper. He was a desiccated corpse with a love of bad puns. The Sixth Sense director M. Night Shyamalan has been attached to the TNT reboot of the series for a while now. The question was: will they resurrect the Crypt Keeper? At Wondercon this past weekend Shyamalan confirmed that he would be back. “There will [be a Crypt Keeper],” Shyamalan said. Who knows if he will be a puppet like in the original series or some kind of CGI monstrosity.
The real question is can M. Night Shyamalan pull it off? Let's face it, he's pretty hit or miss. For the last few years it's been more miss than hit. Who knows if he can do it. I'll watch, if for nothing else than I love the Crypt Keeper's terrible puns.
