Now, I don’t need to tell Metal Gear Solid fans how important Hideo Kojima was to the series. He and his Hollywoodtastic tastes made the franchise what it was. That unique blend of extreme melodrama with a side of pure batshit just defined Metal Gear.

One minute, you’re stuck in an intense-ass half hour codec conversation about nuclear conspiracies. The next, you’re balls deep in a boss battle with a fat cocktail-drinking dude on roller skates. That’s just how it was around here. That’s how Kojima rolls. Alas, Ego-friends… well, you were there for The Phantom Pain. You know how it all went down.

I’ve no idea what it was that caused the rift betwixt Kojima and Konami. Maybe he got drunk at the Christmas party and said the boss’s wife looks like a bulldog’s ballbag. I’ve lost jobs like that before. Whatever the case, ol’ Hideo set off for pastures new, and fans were left wondering just what the hell was next for their beloved franchise.

Well, now we know what’s next: Metal Gear Survive. What we’re looking at here is a budget co-op title, something kinda like The Phantom Pain crossed with Gears of War’s horde mode. If that sounds like your bag, we’ve got some first gameplay for you to ogle.

Take a look at the livestream below, footage from Konami’s presentation at the Tokyo Game Show. Get yourself some English subtitles going and feast your eyes.
