The critical mistake made by the last two films in the Terminator franchise was softening the edges for a PG-13 rating that would be sure to expand the films' appeal to a wider audience. Looking over the box office receipts for Terminator Salvation and Terminator Genisys, it seems the only thing that these films accomplished was alienating the actual fan base because nobody went to see them.
Terminator: Dark Fate is looking to right the ship in a couple of ways. First and foremost—as you can tell from this red band trailer—there's f-bombs galore, blood a'flying, and faces getting shot off at close range. Bringing back Linda Hamilton is another thing this sequel does right as was the decision to make this a direct sequel to T2: Judgment Day and ignoring all prior sequels in the same vein as last year's Halloween.
Of course Arnold is here as well because it just wouldn't be a Terminator movie without him, and he looks like he's having fun playing a guy named Carl and petting a big dog. I wouldn't be surprised, however, to find out that it's really Linda Hamilton's absence—not to mention the PG-13 suckery—that has been this franchise's achilles heel for the last twenty-seven years. We'll find out soon enough as Terminator: Dark Fate is in theaters one week from Friday, on November 1.
