On Friday, as promised, we got our first 88-second look at J.J. Abrams's Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. There were no plot revelations, and we didn't see the thing we're probably most eager to see—the original cast members back in action as Han, Luke, and Leia—which of course is why they call it a teaser. But it was awesome. As I described it to an old high school friend over beers on Saturday (i.e. my mom), the teaser looks the way you'd imagine the original trilogy would have looked like if it had been shot with modern technology...which is another way of saying it looks so much better than anything George Lucas would have done.
That being said, I know there are masochists out there who are just dying to know how shitty the new Star Wars teaser would have been if George Lucas had made it. And if that's you, then you're going to love the George Lucas Special Addition—it's got all sorts of stupid, unnecessary nonsense.
In theaters December 18, 2015, The Force Awakens arrives.
