The dozen or so of you that were actively looking forward to Suicide Squad 2 will be happy to know that the film has finally found its director. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news late yesterday that the film will now be directed by Gavin O'Connor, who will also write the script to the David Ayer penned and directed Suicide Squad.

O'Connor is a veteran director who has led two actors to Oscar nominations. His 1999 movie Tumbleweeds starred one of my longtime crushes, Janet McTeer, and was a lovely little character piece. He also directed 2004's Miracle which is a great little movie that'll make you tear up a bit. Then he kind of became a Joe Carnahan acolyte with Pride and Glory, Warrior, and The Accountant. Decent movies, but nothing of the caliber I thought he'd be doing at this point in his career. He was in talks at one point to direct the Batman solo movie that's now being helmed by Matt Reeves, likely due to his connection to star Ben Affleck via The Accountant. Now he's settling for making the sequel to a wretched film whose minuscule fan base of apologists shrinks by the day? It doesn't make sense to me, but then again, nothing does anymore. At the very least, he'll now have worked with both Tom Hardy and all of his discount variations: Joel Edgerton, Joel Kinnaman, and Jai Courtney.

Also, because I know you care, Jared Leto weighed in on all the Joker goings-on in an interview reported on by THR. When asked about the various films being announced involving his Joker and some very pointedly not involving him, he admitted to being "a little confused, too."

"I love the Joker," Leto continued. "He’s a great character and really fun character to play. But it’s a big universe and when you play the Joker, there’s no ownership there. You have the honor of holding the baton for a little while and then passing it off. There are other films that are in development and I’m excited to see what comes from them."

No you're not. You could care less about anything you're not involved with directly. I guess we'll just wait and see how they shoehorn him into Suicide Squad 2, which is being directed by Gavin O'Connor. In case you forgot already.
