GAMING
bill-swift - June 26, 2012
Ignore all of the accolades flying around your screen as you watch this launch trailer for Spec Ops: The Line. Those things are notoriously inaccurate and cherry-picked to make games seem like they're fully endorsed by said publication or website. The truth is you could find a four or five word sequence in even the most scathing review, feature, preview or news piece and use them to make a game seem better than it is. All that said, Spec Ops: The Line is likely somewhere between awful and the greatest game of all time.
Also take note of the "Spike Lee walk" where there's a tight shot of the main character's face as he appears to be walking without using his own locomotion. In Spike Lee films, the hero (Denzel Washington usually) gets one of these shots when he's anticipating a major challenge or event. Artistically it puts the viewer in a contemplative moment with the main character. Deep stuff.
