When last we laid eyes on the title character of the upcoming movie Sonic the Hedgehog, he looked like an absolute abomination, causing the film's director to post the following message...
Well, kudos to them for making Sonic look less like a small deformed man and more like the cartoon hedgehog we've known and loved for over 25 years.
At the same time, one can't also help but wonder if the effort was even worth it because the film still looks like a festering pile of garbage. No matter how much extra money you spend on visual effects, it doesn't mean a thing if you're not willing to shell out a couple grand for a decent writer to fix the film's terrible humor.
Jim Carrey hasn't had much juice in the tank for quite some time now, and I can't help but wonder what 1997 Jim Carrey would've done with this exact same role. Probably something funny that didn't cause him to have a constant glistening of flop sweat on his brow.
Any way you slice it, this is a marked improvement over what we saw this past May, but it doesn't look as if it's suddenly become worth spending your hard earned money to see. Sonic the Hedgehog makes his way to theaters on February 14, 2020.
