I know that there are people in this world who adore the early aughts Ocean's movies, but when you think about it, do those people really exist? Well they must because the franchise is alive and well, believe it or not, but rather than continuing the established numbering system, next year's Ocean's 8 is taking things down three notches.
Sandra Bullock stars as Debbie Ocean—sister of Clooney's Danny Ocean—and is the first of three Oscar winning actresses to appear in this reboot. Rounding out the titular eight are Sandy's fellow Oscar winners Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway, alongside Oscar nominee Helena Bonham Carter, Emmy winner Sarah Paulson, Emmy nominee Mindy Kaling, Grammy winner Rihanna, and someone named—I kid you not—Awkwafina. Also along for the ride are Dakota Fanning, James Corden, Katie Holmes, and, reprising his role, original series star Matt Damon.
I mean, I get why they're making this and it's mostly to burn the internet to the ground. I can hear the cries of disenfranchised men everywhere: "First they came for our Jedis, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a Jedi. Then they came for our Ghostbusters, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a Ghostbuster. Then they came for the Oceans movies, and I didn't speak up, mostly because I didn't care about those movies. Oh wait a minute, yes I do all of a sudden. To the internet with my misplaced outrage!" Ocean's 8 opens on June 8th.
