With a 3-1 lead in the best of seven series it appeared to be just a matter of time before the St. Louis Cardinals were going to win the decisive fourth game, and head on to the World Series with hopes of winning back to back championships.
Three games later, and after being outscored 20-1 over those three games, the Cardinals are heading home and the San Francisco Giants are moving on!
Matt Cain started for the Giants and did an admirable job striking out four, walking one and scattering five hits over 5 2/3 innings before handing the ball over to Jeremy Affeldt. Three more pitchers followed Affeldt with reliever Sergio Romo getting Matt Holliday to pop out for the final out of the game.
Marco Scutaro was named the NLCS MVP for having multi-hit games in six of seven during the series. His 14 hits during the series matched an LCS record.
Next up will be the Detroit Tigers, who won the ALCS after sweeping the Yankees. So if you want to check out all the highlights from an exciting Game 7 like Brandon Belt's home run, Hunter Pence's big double, pitcher Matt Cain notching an RBI-single check out the gallery!
