The whole timed exclusive thing in video games has never sat right with me. It reeks of desperation, just a little; as though Sony and Microsoft are two great Scrooge McDuck-like entities desperately clawing at our cashtacular. Craving our sweet, sweet money, and racking their brains for any nefarious ways of getting at it. Â
But then you remember, that’s exactly how it is. That’s what greases the slimy-ass wheels of businesses everywhere. Timed exclusivity is a big deal with the likes of Call of Duty, where DLC will hit one console before the other, a right that’s changed hands between the two over the years. Now it seems to be coming to the enigmatic Resident Evil 7.
We already knew that the upcoming survival horror title’s going to have a VR mode. We’ve seen that already. According to a little Internet snooping, though, the mode’s going to be exclusive to PlayStation VR. For a while, at least.
As Escapist Magazine reports, a shot of the upcoming title's boxart hit the game’s official Facebook page over the weekend. It was quickly taken down, but not before the Internet’s nerdly ninjas got their hands on it:
What do we see there? Two pretty darn interesting little blurbs. Up top, PlayStation VR exclusive. At the bottom, the small print: Exclusive to PS VR for 12 months.
So there it is. Don’t worry, Oculus Rift-ers, your time will come. Eventually. Probably.
