Nobody loves it when a plan comes together more than we do. Not even you, B.A. Baracus. So when Capcom's acclaimed shit-your-pants ‘em up Resident Evil makes news on October 31, we're all up it.
Earlier today, IGN reported that Resident Evil 5 is now confirmed as Capcom's highest selling game ever. Exceeding the success of Street Fighter II (and, naturally, the shitstorm of rereleases of it) is a tall order, but there it is. Nerdly number-crunchers don't lie, and the fighter is left to take second place, 6.3 million copies to 6.5. The sixth ‘Evil is third, with 5.2 million sales to date.
The timeliness of it all give us a warm, tingly feeling in our gonads. What better time than Halloween to hear that, in series-wide sales terms, "Resident Evil is the runaway champion having sold 60 million units across the franchise and securing its place as the developer's flagship brand." A fine showing from the biggest name in survival horror.
Timely news, but good news? That depends on your feelings toward the balls-out actiontacular direction the games have taken of late. ‘Survival horror' may be thin on the ground, but there's no denying that it sells. ‘Roided up boulder-punchers are here to stay, evidently.
