Earlier this week, the Internet was bitching about the Xbox Live and PSN outages. Which, y'know, is fine. Who wouldn't be pissed at a band of hackers who allegedly chose Christmas Day to... do whatever technical things one does to screw up online services?
I have visions of some guys in balaclavas sneaking into a fancy-ass office building, shitting on the desks and bashing a little box marked ‘the Internet' with a shovel, but that's probably not how it went down at all.
Anywho, yes. It was an issue. We can all agree on that. Can we also agree that calling the freaking police about it is a lil' bit of an overeaction?
Well, this guy can't. Kotaku brings us the sorry story of one Palm Beach County gamer, who dialed the emergency services to ask "Do you know about the whole thing that's going on with the PlayStation Network?" Naturally, homicides, serial drunken wang-flashers and other such trivial matters took a back seat for a moment. This was a real emergency, right here.
After a little dithering, the operator meekly suggested that he call Sony instead. Crisis thusly averted, that was all she wrote. Other than a piss-takey Tweet from the sheriff's office, which snarkily stated, ‘last time I checked that wasn't an emergency. Try going outside or read a book.'
Zing.
