If you like the world of mutants but find yourself almost consistently disappointed by their big screen adventures, may I recommend FX's Legion, which is entering its third and final season this coming June. This twisted take on the X-Men has been a pretty solid interpretation of the characters without being slavishly faithful to any particular comic book storyline or version of any character.
Series creator Noah Hawley did with Legion what he did previously with Fargo, enriching the world of an existing story with additional tales very much in line with the original's mythos. The show also proved that, for as great as Margot Robbie is as Harley Quinn, Aubrey Plaza would have done a bang-up job as the character as well. Hopefully she'll get to play it somewhere down the line, maybe she could be HQ to Joaquin Phoenix's Joker. I'd see the shit out of that movie.
Anyway, Legion has been a pretty great X-Men adventure and though I'm sad to see it go, I'm glad that it's getting out while it's still good rather than hanging around and getting slowly worse over time. The third and final season of Legion, which will involve Professor X somehow, premieres on FX June 24.
