I hate to break this to you, but if you don't love Katheryn Bigelow's 1991 action masterpiece Point Break, we can never be best friends. Screen Junkies' latest Honest Trailer has been released to coincide with Bigelow's latest film, Detroit, hitting theaters this weekend, and it's a wonderful reminder of how awesome the movie is, and how much the original Fast & Furious movie was just a watered down remake.
There are tons of nits to pick with Point Break from the raging homoerotic undertones to the stilted dialogue to the fact that every interior shot has a layer of smoky haze to it that makes it look like everyone was clambaking every room in Southern California. However, these are the things that make the film such a classic.
If you haven't watched Point Break in a while, I think it's high time you revisited this masterpiece of machismo. It's one of the great films of the 90s and any chance to watch Patrick Swayze in his prime playing a villain is one worth taking. I know I'll be throwing my blu-ray in tonight and drinking some Coronas while I watch Bodhi and Johnny Utah fall in love all over again.
