We are edging ever closer and closer to the release date of The Dark Knight Rises, Christopher Nolan's final instalment of his tremendous Batman series and excitement continues to rise with each passing moment.

To help it do so, the films viral marketing campaign has released three pages from a new edition of The Gotham Observer.

The newspaper reveals to us that Batman is still held responsible for Dent's death, about the planned activities for Harvey Dent Day, and tells us that "While Batman still tops the Gotham City Police most-wanted list and the case remains open, little is known and there have been no recent developments." Good hiding Batman.

Further details from the spreadsheet involve Catwoman's thievery, a party at Wayne Manor and the confirmation that the Gotham Rogues are playing a charity football match on H.D Day, and those of us who have seen the trailer know that it ends quite badly.

You can check out the paper below as well as a few words from the film's producer Emma Thomas who has confirmed that the director will never return to the Batman series. And she should know, she's his wife.

Meanwhile Thomas, who was speaking to the British film magazine SFX, has revealed that Nolan won't be tempted to return for anymore Batman antics. When asked if he might be tempted she stated "No. Never. No, that's truly a never. I can't imagine a world in which he would ever want to come back."

Continuing she noted that "At a certain point it's fun to go off and do something different, you know. We've spent almost 10 years of our live making Batman films. He was very excited about this film, and the story that he'd come up with, but I just cannot imagine that he would get that excited about another version of the same thing." Aw, that's pretty disappointing.

Thomas also mentioned about the finality of a trilogy and that "Once you get into a fourth film then it's just episodic, and I just can't see him getting excited about making another film where basically you're just wheeling in different villains."

Well, he could try. We don't want this to be the last time we ever see the caped crusader.

*UPDATE*

There is now even more viral material for The Dark Knight Rises thanks to the cinematic behemoth that is Mountain Dew. You can click onto the wonderfully named dewgothamcity.com to view a letter from Lucius Fox to Bruce Wayne that reveals some minor plots details and even a new character.

Inside, Lucius begins, "I hope this letter finds you well, Although I would have like to have had this conversation with you personally, Alfred tells me I am better off writing as you are not receiving any visitors at the moment."

Lucius goes onto add that the company has been losing money because of a extravagant attempt by Wayne to create clean energy for the people of Gotham. Of course this leads some of the companies board members to rebell, "most notably John Daggett, who I feel is the last person we want to engage in a power struggle."

Daggett might be a reference to Roland Daggett, who in the Batman Animated series creates Clayface. Could he be involved in The Dark Knight Rises? It's highly unlikely, but it's a pretty nice nod to the fans which shows Nolan knows exactly what he is doing.

Like anyone doubted that anyway.
