The Penn State Football Fallout Has Begun

Once the NCAA crushed Penn State with unprecedented sanctions for the coverup of former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky's egregious sex crimes, it was expected that the football team would start seeing some fallout.

Today one of the school's top recruits, cornerback Ross Douglas, withdrew his commitment to play for the Nittany Lions in 2013 and has decided to go to Big Ten rival Michigan instead.

One part of the sanctions that the NCAA handed down was that players would be allowed to transfer from PSU and still be eligible to play this season for another FBS school. Typically if a player transfers, they must sit out a year before suiting up for games with their new team.

ESPN reports that USC has notified PSU that they're interested in running back Silas Redd, a junior who could play two seasons for the Trojans. And don't think USC is going to be the last school to start cherry-picking their way through Penn State's roster. Guys that have NFL talent aren't going to stick around Happy Valley and hope they can rise above that mess. The team is going to be pretty bad, so they're not going to want to waste their time there. Penn State will be feeling the effects of the sanctions for many, many years.
