Oliver Stone, who looks like Captain Kangaroo now btw, has won 3 Academy Awards and is currently working on a 10-part documentary for Showtime called "Secret History of America". Yesterday he gave and interview with the Times of London to promote the documentary, but now everyone is freaking out over it.
Perhaps because he defended Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin, and said that Hitler is only considered evil because of the "Jewish domination of the media". He also said he tried to, "walk in Stalin's shoes and Hitler's shoes to understand their point of view", and hopes his movie will put their legacy "in context".
Oh and there's more.
Why do people in the US think the Holocaust was a big deal?
"The Jewish domination of the media. There's a major lobby in the United States. They are hard workers. They stay on top of every comment, the most powerful lobby in Washington. Israel has fucked up United States foreign policy for years."
Was Hitler really so bad?
"Hitler is an easy scapegoat throughout history and it's been used cheaply."
"We can't judge people as only 'bad' or 'good.' "
"[Hitler] is the product of a series of actions. It's cause and effect. People in America don't know the connection between WWI and WWII."
"Hitler was a Frankenstein, (but) there was also a Dr Frankenstein."
"German industrialists, the Americans and the British. He had a lot of support."
"He's the product of a series of actions. It's cause and effect ... People in America don't know the connection between World War I and World War II."
"We're going to educate our minds and liberalize them and broaden them. We want to move beyond opinions ... Go into the funding of the Nazi party. How many American corporations were involved, from GM through IBM. Hitler is just a man who could have easily been assassinated."
"Hitler did far more damage to the Russians than the Jewish people, 25 or 30 [million killed]."
Aww, the poor Russians. So was Stalin actually a good guy too?
"Stalin has a complete other story. Not to paint him as a hero, but to tell a more factual representation. He fought the German war machine more than any person."
I think it goes without saying that he's fucking this up on a level that is hard to even comprehend (*). It would be like if someone made a documentary about pandas, and it claimed that pandas invented movable type, were immortal, and could shoot fireballs from their paws. It's that level of wrong.
quote sources = the atlantic, the telegraph, and nbc new york.
(*) just keep in mind that Stalin executed at least one million of his own people as part of the "Great Purge", and the way "he fought the German war machine" was by lining up his soldiers until the Germans ran out of ways to kill them. Just over 400,000 Americans died in WWII. 25 million Russians died in WWII. They had 2 battles (Leningrad and Stalingrad) that each had more Russian casualties than America has had in all of our wars combined.
