OK, OK, we don't actually hate Elijah Wood. The world's most annoying famous little kid went and made good when he (spoiler alert) dropped that one evil ring into the Cracks of Doom that one time. Or let it go, or whatever.
But New Zealand isn't as forgiving, it seems, of the halfling that helped them defeat Sauron's evil forces and unite the kingdoms of men. BBC News reported that they've up and banned his new flick, Maniac and pulled it from the New Zealand International Film Festival (also known as Cannes' dirtier, less-interesting and way behind the times cousin).
What's all the hubbub with the movie about exactly? For one, it's not supposed to be that good. For two, it's packed with insanely graphic violence and all that serial killer business. Furthermore, Maniac is a remake of the 1980 slasher cult classic of the same name and Kiwi's don't take kindly to remakes. Some censorious dude at New Zealand's ominously named Office of Film and Literature Classification said:
...the POV nature of the film mixed with the psychopathic behaviour of actor Elijah Wood is more than disturbing, that it's potentially dangerous in the hands of the wrong person.
Jeeze, can't they cut Frodo a break? Or at least learn to spell behavior correctly?
