This new trailer for The Snowman based on the 2007 bestseller by Jo Nesbø, shows a little more detail into the plot of the film. Director Tomas Alfredson's last film was 2011's masterful Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and he also directed the only vampire movie made in the last twenty years that's even worth your time to watch, Let the Right One In. He's got the mood of this murder mystery down to a science.
I'm mostly curious to see this film to regain some faith in Michael Fassbender. Too often lately he's been the best thing about some pretty bad movies like Alien: Covenant and Assassin's Creed and X-Men: Apocalypse. I need to see if he's still got the ability to be elevated by good material. I hope this film fits the bill, because I'd like this to happen sooner rather than later. Otherwise, I'm going to start questioning his decision making and lamenting the days when he made good movies.
I wouldn't go so far as to say there's a lot riding on this film, but I sincerely do hope it's good. The only good thriller we've gotten in a while is Wind River, which I totally recommend seeing. That film, while good, needs some competition. The Snowman opens October 13.
