A lot of Spider-Man fans are a little nervous about the over-emphasis on Tony Stark and Iron Man in virtually every piece of advertising we've seen for the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming. While Marvel continues to say that Stark will only be there to serve the title character in a supporting/mentor role, it's hard to deny that they seem to be contradicting that with every new poster and advertisement. Just look at this terrible new poster they released...
Apart from the terrible photoshop going on there, Tony Stark is featured on that poster TWICE! It's hard to deny that he's become the focus of the film's marketing campaign when they're releasing posters like this one...
And this one...
And releasing promos like this...
I get that Robert Downey, Jr. is the face of the MCU and Iron Man is the character that got this whole train a'rolling, but it's hard not to be the slightest bit nervous that Marvel Studios is trying desperately to brand this iteration of Spider-Man as being theirs and theirs alone. This isn't that other Spider-Man, see? This one is friends with Tony Stark. This one gets all of his tech from Tony Stark. This one wants desperately to be an Avenger. From a business standpoint, I get it, but as a fan of Spider-Man, I'm a little worried that Marvel is removing any and all agency from the character, and that's a substantial concern.
