In 2013, Oscar winning director Steven Soderbergh announced that his film Side Effects was going to be his final theatrically released feature. Four long years later, he's gone back on his word and is reuniting with his Magic Mike star Channing Tatum for the new flick Logan Lucky. While it's more or less guaranteed to get people in the South all riled up for portraying them as a bunch of rubes, this new international trailer looks pretty fantastic.
The film is stacked to the gills with talent—Daniel Craig, Adam Driver, Katherine Waterston, Hilary Swank, Riley Keough, Sebastian Stan, Katie Holmes—and has a hell of a director behind the camera, so it's not surprising that this trailer looks great. What is surprising is that very few of those people are known for comedy, making the fact that the trailer is as funny as it is something of a total shock.
I'm sure this trailer will divide people and many will boycott it sight unseen, but it looks like some pretty great late summer entertainment, provided you don't take it too seriously. Plus it's a nice return to a heist movie for Soderbergh, which is a world he knows a lot about after directing the Ocean's Eleven remake and its two sequels. Logan Lucky hits theaters on August 18.
