When it was announced that House of Cards was going to return for a sixth and final season without embattled star Kevin Spacey, many were left to wonder if they'd bump off his character Frank Underwood or go the "Chrissy went to take care of her sick mother" Three's Company route. It seems the former was the way to go and the way they went, as definitively revealed in this new teaser for the show's November return.
While the decision to kill off this character leaves at least a part of the show's potential unfulfilled, there's no reason to continue harboring a toxic environment on set where your star is making all of his co-workers uncomfortable. Nevertheless, I have no doubt that Robin Wright is going to kill it this season, giving Claire a sixth season arc she may not have had otherwise.
I'll be tuning in to bid the show farewell, though I can't imagine it'll attract many new fans now, what with Spacey's inescapable presence throughout the first five seasons. I guess they could always go back and digitally replace him with Christopher Plummer, should the need arise. Anyway, it'll be nice putting this thing to bed in a satisfactory way, a luxury so few shows get in this day and age.
House of Cards returns to Netflix for its sixth and final season on November 2.
