TV & FILM

Rampant sex and nudity aside, I think the reason most people tune into Game of Thrones is because the spectacle is second to none anywhere on television. The visual effects work rivals that of any major film production and this new featurette spotlighting the special effects is here to give you some behind the scenes insight into how they bring Westeros to life.
The biggest takeaway for me is just how much of what they do is practical rather than digital. No matter how good computer effects get, there's still an uncanny separation between real and digital that instantly takes the audience out of a moment. Yes, some things can't be done practically, but the fact that they do as much as humanly possible before turning things over to the digital team speaks volumes about the Game of Thrones team's commitment to creating a top shelf product.
GoT fans will likely spend the day poring over every little shot in this featurette, looking for any potential spoilers for the upcoming seventh season, and it looks like there's plenty to find. As for me, I don't want to get ahead of myself, so I'll just keep waiting patiently for the show's return to HBO on July 16.
